Bromley and Beckenham Boys win the London Youth Games Hockey Tournament

A team of boys from Bromley and Beckenham U14s pulled off a great result to win the London Youth Games hockey competition.

The team, comprising Liam Writer, Liam O'Leary, Harrison King, Joe Furzer, Barney Spear, Sacha Jennings, Fionn Sparrow, Enda Connolly, Elliot Dodds, Conal Sparrow and Ali Valder made a great start to competition winning 4-0 in dominant and stylish fashion in the first game of the day on the scorchingly hot World Cup Quarter Final Saturday.

They followed that up with a 3-0 win with Ali Valder coming to the rescue on a few occasions - setting up a the last pool game against Lewisham to see who would top the group.  The boys pulled off a very comfortable 1-0 win which rather flattered the opposition, although the did nearly equalise with the very last hit of the game.

The semi-final was against a very good Southwark side, but once Barney had accidentally dispatched their most dangerous player at a penalty corner - the boys went to record a comfortable 2-0 win.

The final pitted the boys once again against Lewisham.  The scoreline does no justice to the game as the boys again dominated the match winning 1-0 with a Barney Spear penalty corner settling the game.  The performance was so complete that Lewisham only managed to get into our circle once in the game and managed no shots at all.

All in all a great day - and the boys played with real skill and showed great attitude and application all day.

Look out for the celebration evening!

Junior Girls celebrate successful Easter tour to Rotterdam

Bromley and Beckenham Hockey Club Junior Girls visited Rotterdam over the Easter weekend to compete in a very competitive tournament attracting teams from all over Europe.

The girls competed very evenly with much bigger clubs from Antwerp, Munich, Berlin and the host team from Rotterdam. Whilst not all the results went the way of BromBecks the spirit was fantastic and the standard of play improved game by game. There were many memorable moments over a packed weekend of exciting hockey culminating in an epic sudden death penalty shoot-out against Munich. With the BromBecks keeper, Saffy Wood, only conceding two goals in seven attempts the victory was eventually secured with some cool finishing from Megan Wallis prompting a jubilant victory celebration.

They was also plenty of fun off the pitch with a hotly contested game of Aero tag, a disco on the Saturday night and all rounded off with a team meal and prize giving on Sunday evening.

A weekend the team will remember for many years to come.

The girls are very grateful for all the support from parents, organisers, fundraisers, sponsors and the club’s support for making the tour happen.

London Youth Games Team Bromley Celebration Evening

Team Photo 1.JPG

After a successful 2017 London Youth Games campaign, Champions Team Bromley celebrated their overall success at the Bromley Pavilion on Monday 09th October.

The evening was attended by many VIP’s and this year’s special guest star was 2017 World Championship Silver medallist Perri Shakes-Drayton who shared her success story to all of the Bromley athletes.

The evening was a great celebration with the young athletes being treated to a great buffet, bowling competition and a pool party for the brave!

Our successful Girls Hockey Gold medallists were lucky enough to get a team photo with Perri Shakes-Drayton who chatted and answered some of the girls questions about her life in sport with all the ups and downs she has endured on her journey.  Truly Inspiring for an athlete that has worked so hard and has never given up!  A great lesson for all.

Keep working hard and enjoying your Hockey!

Chris Swan

It saddens me to report that Chris Swan died after a short illness last Saturday (01 Oct).

On behalf of Bromley & Beckenham HC and especially those Bromley members who remember the endless hours and effort Chris sacrificed to the development of the junior section at Bromley, I offer our condolences to Sandra (his wife) and Chris' two sons, Jon and Matt, both ex-first team at Bromley.

Chris played in his early years at Holcombe HC (Kent) before relocating to London where he joined Bromley offering a real enthusiasm to help rejuvenate the junior programme there. He quickly grew the section not just in volume and quality but most impressively, drove the introduction of girls junior hockey at the club.

I remember Chris most vividly from my early years as the guy who simply blew the air horn at junior festivals but little did I know he was to be so integral in my own hockey development. I know for sure, I am not alone in this sentiment and there will be so many of my peers shocked by this sad news.

He was one of a kind, offering so much and asking for so little. Chris remained supportive of the merged club and was an avid 'Friend' who would offer levelled and sound feedback to many a first team performance, good or bad.

A great man has been lost to our sport. I currently do not have any details of the funeral and must respect the wishes of his family. That said, the Club are keen to commemorate Chris' efforts and organise a commemorative fixture to be played nearer to Christmas. More details to follow

Christmas Pudding Fundraiser

As the Christmas decorations start creeping into the shops and the festive season edges nearer, we are keen to introduce a little Club fundraiser that aims to raise some much needed funds for our junior section and bring a little festive fun to all.

We are working in partnership with the ‘Ultimate Plum Pudding Company’ to create a selection of festive Puddings that are emblazoned with ‘BromBeck’ character. With 3 different choices of Pudding and a couple of luscious butter sauces to accompany the desserts, we invite you to join in the festive spirit and help us raise a little money.

The Ultimate Plum Pudding Company has over 30 years experience of making great tasting puddings, supplying to stores like Fortnum & Mason and Lakeland. Their range of splendid sponge puddings are ambient with an average 6 month shelf life, so purchases don’t have to be just for Christmas.

We have secured a four week ordering window to get all orders back in time before Christmas. The deadline for final orders is Wednesday 15th November, with orders ready for collection 3 weeks later. We will advise once orders are ready for collection. You’ll find a list of the puddings & sauces on offer, as well as a price list. The more puddings we order the more discounts we receive; so don’t hold back when ordering!

Place your individual orders by emailing fundraising@brombeckhc.co.uk, specifying your exact requirements from the list below. We will invoice you individually on receipt of your order, providing online account details to credit.

Pudding & Sauce Options

Christmas Pudding - The Ultimate Plum Pudding

The award winning Ultimate Plum Pudding is available in 3 sizes and in both No Gluten and Alcohol Free versions. There’s a good balance of ingredients so flavours don't fight or dominate each other. The result is a light, sweet (but not too sweet), luxuriously delicious, celebratory pudding.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Our incredibly popular Sticky Toffee Pudding is really gorgeous pud with a lusciously squidgy top. A touch of salt in the caramel sauce prevents over-sweetness. Like all sponges it keeps for 6-8 months.

Triple Chocolate Pudding

Our Triple Chocolate is made with lots of melted Belgian chocolate and fine dark French cocoa powder. Coupled with Chocolate chips and a chocolate liqueur to give it that real finishing touch!

Brandy and Rum Butters

We also offer a luscious brandy butter to melt over your scrumptious pudding. Made with unsalted sweet cream butter, icing sugar, a little coarser sugar for a hint of crunch, a hint of lemon and nutmeg and as much brandy as it will take without splitting. Our brandy butter comes in 190g jars.

Also available is a classic rum butter. A cumbrian classic - darker sugar, a little orange and lots of dark rum.

Luxury Sauces

Sticky Toffee pudding - Developed for those who can’t get enough of our Sticky Toffee puddings; spectacularly creamy but not too sweet. It has a fudge like texture when cold - perfect for decorating cakes.

Luxury Chocolate Sauce - The gorgeously rich Chocolate Sauce is packed with cocoa mass, real Belgian melted chocolate, further boosted with fine French full flavoured cocoa powder.

On behalf of the fundraising committee, we’d like to thank our members and parents for their continued support. We wish you a great festive period and continued success throughout the season.
