Great Britain Coaching Club Programme
If coaches are just supporting sessions then it is now not necessary for them to attend a qualification. Our recommendation would be to attend the Coaching Club Workshops related to the population they are coaching to give them the support, knowledge and confidence in their role to deliver a player centred experience. Most of these workshops are 3 hours in length and cost £40.
This programme also includes the Introduction to Hockey Coaching Workshop, this workshops allows more flexible, accessible and affordable learning than the previous Level 1 and will give coaches practical ideas on HOW to deliver fun, exciting and dynamic games to facilitate effective learning environments. This course is 6 hours in length, and costs £80.
We no longer run the traditional Level 1-3 courses. For those coaches looking to lead session and coach independently then there are 2 courses available:
- England Hockey Sessional Coach - for those who coach hockey sessions to children or adults through Back 2 Hockey, After School Clubs, Summer Camps, Adult Club Participation or support sessions in a Hockey programme (ie Club Team, JDC, JAC, School Team).
- England Hockey Coach - for those who are the regular coach of a hockey programme (ie Club Team or School Team over a season, JDC or JAC)
Both of these qualifications are Level 2s and so will enable people to coach independently. The main difference being that the Coach Course goes into a bit more detail about planning and delivering over a season and so is useful for coaches will be overseeing the programme of coaching over the season for one of more teams, and so we do ask for coaches to come to this course with at least 2 years experience of delivering within a programme/over a season. The Sessional Coach is for coaches who are running independent sessions or blocks of sessions and for this we ask for coaches to have been coaching for at least 1 year. There is currently no requirement to have a Level 1 to go on the Sessional Coach Course. Which option is best for each coach will depend on the particular role that they are hoping to fulfil.
Dates and Venues
Research as part of the Qualification Review told us that coaches prefer to access qualification in the off season/summer months as it is hard to fit in courses around coaching and playing during the season.
We have just finished running a number of workshops and courses and are in the process of putting new dates together at present, with more workshops available in the next few months, and more courses available in spring and summer next year.
