In March, we took two teams to the Kent Championships at Tonbridge School. The winners and runner ups get a place at Regionals so there was a lot to play for. The A team lost their first game against Sevenoaks on a close margin and then proceeded to win all the rest of the games in their group. In the next round they again comprehensively won all games so were through to the semi-finals. For this, they had to move from a sand astro to a water-based astro to face Canterbury A. The girls were given 5 minutes to acclimatise themselves to the new surface. They unfortunately lost to a very strong Canterbury side with Jazz in goal making some spectacular saves. There was still everything to play for as we were determined to do well. The girls faced Herne Bay in the play off for 3Rd and 4Th. This was a hard fought match and Brombecks Girls just could not get the ball into the back of the net. At full time it was 0-0 and it went to golden goal. Unfortunately a controversial short corner was awarded against Brombecks and Herne Bay scored from this. This meant that the A team was 4th overall at the Kent Championships. The B team game 10th out of 15 teams competing.
Just before Easter, we attended the annual Canterbury tournament. We again took two teams. The Under 12 A team played really well and were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Canterbury A to a scrappy goal. In the final game against the Canterbury invitational 7, Brombecks had to win or draw to gain second place. This was the last game of the day and the girls rose to the challenge and 2nd place was secured. The B team was a developmental squad and they enjoyed the match play on the day but unfortunately lost all their games.
